As an example, we compared the cost of Prilosec with the cost of Nexium, a generic version of the heartburn medication.
Nexium is a brand name for Prilosec. While the name suggests a generic version, this brand name is not available on prescription. However, a number of generic versions of Nexium are available, which is why this drug has become so popular.
The new approach comes as a shock. The generic version of Prilosec is not available on prescription. This is why many doctors are now considering using the generic version to treat a condition. So, the price of Prilosec, which has been sold over the counter, may not be the same for every patient.

Prilosec, generically known as esomeprazole, is a prescription medication designed to treat stomach ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).Unlike other medications, Prilosec is only FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe cases of peptic ulcers. It is available over the counter from a doctor's office.
NEXIUM 20MG TABLET is used to reduce the frequency of heartburn in the adult heart, and to treat heartburn that occurs more than 2 days after the last dose ofesomeprazole.
NEXIUM 20MG TABLET may be used alone or in combination with other medicines, and with a particular antacid. The drug also may be used with other medicines to treat other conditions such as heartburn and other stomach problems.
Take the drug at the same time each day for 7 days. The dose may be increased by 2 or more times per day at the same time each day. Take the dose at the same time every day for the entire time needed to get the drug.
Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew them.
Before taking Nexium 20mg, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any other medicines or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Before using Nexium 20mg, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heartburn and high blood pressure, high cholesterol, liver disease, diabetes, and seizures.
